Are you a Doctor who has temporarily forgotten the Real You... Your Dreams..... Your Passion ..... due to your hectic schedule? Please read this!

I was assigned to prepare an obituary video documentary on doctors, who lost their lives while treating COVID patients of Rourkela and its vicinity. It was an activity of JP Hospital and IMA Rourkela city branch. This allowed me to peep into their personal life, their dreams, their aspirations, achievements and visions.

I went through the interviews with their close relatives, colleagues and friends. The more I went on creating the video, the more restless I became because of the inference I drew from their life. Most of them went into the grave with lots of their dreams unfulfilled. Someone has rightly said the graveyard is the costliest place on earth as lots of great dreams are buried there.

I had the opportunity to spend some time with all the senior doctors whom we lost during COVID times.

Someone wanted to bring environmental changes around him, someone wanted to create an affordable cancer care centre, someone was keen on bringing discipline among co-workers, one was trying to link spiritualism to health and bring joy and happiness among people. Someone was interested in creating an empathetic patient care environment but all of them had to depart from this world with their dreams and work incomplete.

Now is the time for introspection.. and time to ask a question.

Do we have to leave this world with lots of music still on in our minds?

My question is....

If not you then who will do it?

If not now then when?

If not this then what is more important?

I have a few suggestions for people who want to fulfil their dreams before they leave this platform.

  1. Focus: Focusing on the thing which is very much dear to you apart from your profession. Spend at least a few hours every day to strengthen it so that with the time that becomes your everything. Plan for the next few years ahead i.e. If you are in your forties, plan for your fifties. If you are in your fifties then plan for your sixties.

  2. Non-judgemental: we become judgmental very quickly with the things happening with and around us. This phenomenon is the greatest obstacle on our journey towards our aspirations and visions

  3. Faith:  have full faith in yourself and with your vision. Today you may have travelled a small path on your dream path but with time this will cover up the distances you had planned to travel.

  4. Consistency:   Go on doing the things which are necessary for your journey consistently as this will keep you on track every time you fall away from your path.

  5. Ask for Help:   Many times during the journey on our dream path, we get stuck and lose our confidence. We sometimes get disheartened and want to quit, but those are the moments we should ask for the help of people around us and will be surprised to get a response from our well-wishers. The real problem is we do not ask …. It’s our ego that prevents us from doing the things we want to do. Let’s work on it.
