Understanding the Ecosystem

People fail... The system works...

Doctors all across the world spend years in medical school learning how to be an instrument in making the world a better and healthier place. The trainers of medical education establish the goal of their life from the beginning. The system familiarises one with hundreds of body parts, millions of physiological processes occurring in the body, and thousands of diseases. To become a good doctor, one must become well familiar with all of these things in a short period and then step down to the field to practise or demonstrate their effectiveness.

I was not an exception to this rule.

I started my quest to become a doctor exactly 37 years ago, with many aspirations and ambitions of making the world a better place. Alas... Looking back, I couldn't even keep myself healthy until my system urged me to pause and reconsider.

This is the story of today's health professionals. Everyone is racing... playing number games and abusing their bodies and minds.
The unhappiness in the environment, the strained doctor-patient relationship, the increased use of gadgets, and the introduction of the management system made them more vulnerable to illness and attitude problems. We have begun to forget the ecosystem in which doctors used to thrive more successfully.
You're probably wondering what ecosystem I'm referring to. Yes, I'm referring to us, the patient, and our surroundings. It entails our attitude, tender touch and love, awareness of our limitations, the teaching of do not harm, peace of mind, the respect we deserve, and so on.

The question now is, who is to blame for the deterioration of our ecosystem? We... with our ignorance of the existence of this ecosystem. As We, humans, are to blame for the destruction of the earth's ecosystem, so we doctors are to blame for putting less emphasis on our health ecosystem. The better we get at taking care of people with diseases, the worse we get at taking care of "Our Health."

On this doctor's day, let's first make a promise to work on ourselves to restore our health ecosystem and live a healthy life by loving ourselves and making a culture of "me first." Let's create a system which will work in favour of our health and vitality.
