If One Takes Care of His Own Health then He/She will be Requiring the Help of the Health Care System Minimally. @ SELF-HEALTHCARE EDUCATION

For the last 12 years, I am trying to push the concept of HEALTHY LIVING into people’s minds because of the conviction that
if one takes care of his health then he will be requiring our Health Care System minimally.

As you all know very well that we doctors are trained from the beginning of our medical career to deal with diseases. Health was not a part of our curriculum. Because of my personal encounter with ill health, I could understand the value of health, but it was a very difficult journey for me to identify the path and walk through it.

What I realized, 12 years back was a very simple thing i.e. health is wealth.

We doctors neglect our health mostly for a reason that if we don’t act then we will be held responsible for the outcome. If we do not scarify then people will not talk good about us.  But we forget at the same time, that if we don’t take care of ourselves then nobody will help us once we are sick. Being health care professionals we do neglect our health, so think about the common man.

After conducting hundreds of my health seminars, I have come to a conclusion that there is a need for hospitals to take lead in educating the mass about health, just like the way we are taking care of diseases IN HOSPITALS.

At present, our total focus is on treating diseases and is the reason why health has just slipped away from doctors and hospitals, to religious groups and gurus or to people having little knowledge about human anatomy and physiology. This needs a paradigm shift in the approach of hospitals towards Health.

The present health care scenario in our country is facing a lot of turbulence because of an all-time low patient-doctor relationship.

One of the main complaints is that we the health care professionals and the system is exploiting their disease state and getting benefited from it. We can’t help it, but if we push ourselves a little more to accommodate health and wellbeing into our curriculum then there is a chance that we will win over them.

By promoting health, we will be showing our concern for them and their well-being. This simple change of our attitude will bring them closure to us and will start believing us in a long run.

So next time when they will fall ill, they will take responsibility and seek our help to get rid of the disease state.

“SELF-HEALTHCARE EDUCATION” is the beginning of such a journey.

My aim is to empower people with knowledge about their bodies and mind so that they can understand their role in the causation of diseases and start giving respect to the efforts we make to treat/cure them. I need your valuable opinion on this concept.

I will appreciate your honest views on this “UNIQUE” approach.
